Wedding Dress Shopping Tips

FILED IN Wedding Dresses No Comments

* When you’re going to choose your wedding dress, you’d better not try on the dresses that are out of your budget. You don’t want to fall in love with a dress that you can’t afford.
* When you’re shopping for dresses, think about whether or not the dress is one that you’ll love looking at thirty years from now. I think you may not want to look back at your wedding pictures and wonder, “What was I thinking?”
* While trying on dresses, sitting down, lifting your arms and dancing a little. These are all things you’re going to be doing on your wedding day and you don’t want to be uncomfortable.
* Don’t be surprised by the wedding dress size that is ordered for you. You’ll wear a bridal gown that is one to two sizes bigger than your regular clothes.
* Always purchase your accessories after you’ve ordered your dress. If you’ve already got something that you’d like to wear (like your mom’s veil) bring it with you while dress shopping. You’ll want to make sure that it looks right with your dress.
* Remember that a dress on a model in a magazine may look completely different once you try it on, so keep an open mind and try on a variety of gown styles.
* Break in your wedding shoes before the big day. Wear them around your house so that won’t be uncomfortable on your wedding day.
* If you’re wearing a white wedding dress (not ivory or another shade of off-white), pack a piece of chalk in your emergency kit to cover any marks you might get on your dress.

Over the years, bridal designers have flirted with creating short white dresses for brides who want to change into less cumbersome gowns after the ceremony. More often than not, these were just simple alternatives to the “main show” gowns.
That’s why I was pleasantly surprised, during the recent shows, to see so many designers elevating the stature of the short white dress, creating frothy confections and elaborate designs that were just as detailed and special as their longer counterparts. Here are some beautiful dresses.

Wedding Dresses For a Beach Wedding

FILED IN Wedding Dresses No Comments

If you have decided to hold a beach wedding, now it’s time to focus on wedding dresses suitable for it. Taking into account the weather and your own personal style preferences, you’ll find plenty of dresses to appeal to your fashionable side.
If there’s only one word to describe a beach wedding, perhaps it’s easy. There’s just something relaxed and charming about the entire affair, from the beautiful weather and backdrop to the color palettes and tendency for guests to go barefoot. The mood is breezy and cool, and this may well best be reflected by your wedding dress.
The key to finding the right wedding dress for the beach is to focus on the material: Forgo rich, thick fabrics in favor of lightweight materials that skim the body, like silk, organza, and linen. The last thing you want is to feel uncomfortable or even remotely constricted. Other traits of wedding dresses suitable for a beach wedding include:
* Flowing silhouettes that seem to simply glide over your figure. Sheath and A-line cuts are outstanding choices, but don’t shy away from long gown styles if that’s your ultimate preference.
* Colors that resonate with the season. If you’re having a spring or summer wedding on the beach, consider a dress with an accent color in light blue, pink, yellow, green, lavender, or gold, either by way of a sash or some light embroidery.
* Necklines can contribute to the overall beach-appropriate appearance of your dress. Look for halter and off-the-shoulder styles; both will keep you cool, too.
At the same time, there are a couple of details you should probably avoid for a beach wedding, too. Among them:
* Long trains and veils, both of which will blow about in the breeze and possibly collect sand as you move.
* Heavy details, such as beads and sequins. A small amount is acceptable, but any more and you risk dealing with a heavier-than-necessary dress. Remember that the key is to feel light.
* Heavy, restrictive fabrics that will seem stiff in the beach breeze. Heavier fabrics may also be too hot to be comfortable on the beach.

About Wedding Dresses

FILED IN Wedding Dresses No Comments

Throughout history, brides have worn gowns that mirrored the trend of the periods. Middle ages European brides wore rich, luxurious jewel tones. Brides in the Elizabethan period wore moderate tones of sage, rose and gold. Even though we think of white as the ideal wedding dress color, the concept of a “white wedding” is quite modern. A white dress was not a practical option for several brides at that times. Even among the wealthy it was considered lavish to purchase a gown to be worn only once. Until the early twentieth century, brides normally selected a colored gown that could be worn for other occasions. Some even chose a black dress, because funerals were common in the 1900s, and a woman would wear her best dress to the funeral.
Old-World Brides
The idea of wearing a bridal veil predates the wedding dress itself. In ancient Greece, brides wore a bright yellow veil, while Roman brides wore a scarlet red veil that was also used as their burial shroud. Many ancient tribes wrapped the bride from head to toe, to symbolize the modest and untouched maiden and to protect her from prying eyes and evil spirits.
Queen Victoria
When she wed her true love in 1840, the young Queen Victoria chose a delicate white silk gown. Previous royal weddings had featured lavish furs and jewel-encrusted robes. Although some brides had worn white before her, the popularity of Queen Victoria’s wedding sparked many imitators. Still, white remained an impractical option for all but the very wealthy. Colored wedding gowns persisted through the 1920s, when white was officially adopted as the wedding color of choice.
Nowadays
Many brides always choose their unique wedding dresses without any limitation, they can opt for the style and the color whatever they like. As long as it fits for brides, it can be a perfect wedding dress.
Other Customs
Modern Indian brides usually wear red saris decorated in lavish gold embroidery. Chinese brides also wear red, which is symbolic of joy and love. In Chinese culture, white is a symbol of hope and is often worn at funerals.

Four Major Styles Of Wedding Dresses

FILED IN Wedding Dresses No Comments

Undoubtedly, every girl wants to look the best on her big day. One of the most important aspects is the wedding dress. Today I will introduce some wedding dress styles which may help you to choose a right style.
Wedding dress has four major styles, they are A-line, Mermaid, Ball Gown and Column.
A line wedding dresess can be the most ideal and popular style, because it almost suits every one. The a line dress is characterized by a shape that is fitted around the bodice and flows out to the ground with the outline of uppercase A. This kind of dress can make your waist look slim and flatter your bust. Due to its classic and simple style, the a line dress can be suitable for almost wedding themes, from a traditional church to a beach wedding.
Mermaid wedding dresses are tightly fitted to the body from chest to knee. This is a pretty sexy look which highlights the curves of a woman. So brides need to be very confident to their figures and be sure that you are comfortable to sit and walk in a mermaid dress. What’s more, brides also need to pay attention to the under wears beneath the dress for it’s likely to reveal the outline of under wears, which makes brides come to an embarrassing situation.
Ball gown wedding dresses always have a full skirt and are most suitable for traditional and informal wedding ceremony. Trains are perfect with the ball gown, both cathedral length train and brush lent train. A ball gown can flatter your from head to toe if you have a full bust and a small hip. But for those petite bridals, it not wise to wear a ball gown dress because it make you smaller and seem to disappear into skirt.
Column wedding dresses, also be called sheath wedding dresses, are fitted with a straight skirt. It tends to hug the body so that it shows all curves. There are many ways to change the overall look of a column dress. Different necklines, sleeve length, skirts length and fabrics can give a totally fresh look of the dress. A willowy bride, tall or short, in a column dress is definitely the focus of the wedding. Due to its design, a column dress is not a good choice for the plump brides. Besides, the bride in a column dress may have constrictions on your movement such as sit and dance.

Choose Spring Wedding Dress

FILED IN Wedding Dresses No Comments

When you are preparing to choose your wedding dress, you should consider the season in which you are married. Spring weddings offer a wonderful opportunity for creative and stylish wedding dresses.
First, you can consider light fabrics when looking at your wedding dress. Since spring often means warmer weather, light fabrics such as organza, sheer gazar and light silk tulles are used for making the perfect wedding dresses.
Wear the colors of spring when you walk down the aisle. Since wedding dresses are no longer bound to the traditional white, you can incorporate light spring colors into your ensemble through colorful trim and sashes.
Choose a fit that flatters your body-type and suits the sunny days of spring. A less structured silhouette such as an empire-waisted gown makes the perfect spring statement.
Buy a dress that embraces the informality of a spring wedding by looking at cocktail and ankle-length gowns. These styles will make for an easier walk down the “aisle” if you are married on the beach or in the garden.
There are some tips that you need to be aware of:
Shop for a spring wedding dress at a bridal store near you. Remember that most stores require 6 to 8 months for delivery of your dress, so buy early.
Look online for wedding dresses from the previous spring season. Just like other forms of fashion, wedding gowns are designed on a seasonal basis. The trends which affect the styles are not as transient, though, so a wedding dress from last year will still be fashionable.
Hire a seamstress to make your wedding dress for you. Having a dress custom made means that you can dictate the precise sleeves, bodice, skirt, and hem that you want to achieve your overall spring bride look.
Shop outside the box by looking at sundressescocktail suits and other non-wedding options for your trip down the aisle. A more casual ceremony opens up a world of fashion opportunities for the spring bride.

What You Should Consider When Choosing Wedding Dress

FILED IN Wedding Dresses No Comments

You want the perfect wedding dress, so you have to make a wedding planning. There are some things you need to consider before shopping for your dress. Do you need to make an appointment to visit the shop? Does the store carry dresses you can afford? Can you browse the whole collections, or do you only get to see the wedding dresses the sales person chooses for you? If this shop doesn’t carry the dress you love, can it be ordered?
Once these questions have been answered and you find a dress or two that you like, there are still more questions you need to ask. Can a particular dress be ordered with different sleeves, or neckline? What alterations can be done and what will that cost? Do you have headpieces and or veils that will go with my dress? What are the cancellation and refund policies? Can we get a Rush on this dress if necessary? These are the most important questions to ask, but you will probably have some of your own. Beware of any shop that won’t give you straight answers or written estimates. When you think you have found just the right dress, ask if they can hold it for a day or two, then go home wait at least 34 hours and go back for another look. If you still love it, then go right ahead and buy it.
After you have chosen your wedding dress, the seamstress will take measurements of your bust, waist and hips, and determine if the dress needs to be taken up. Just about every wedding gown needs some alterations. You will also need to go in for fittings, usually at least three times. Make sure, if your alterations are not free, that you get a written estimate. Find out if you will be able to “borrow” your dress for a portrait sitting, and return it for pressing afterwards. Pay with a credit card so that if anything goes wrong, you can dispute the payment.

Fashion For Plus Sizes

FILED IN Wedding Dresses No Comments

Fashion for plus sizes is more in demand than ever, with almost 62% of women wearing a size 14. Fashion is becoming more and more versatile, appealing to many body shapes and sizes. Knowing what to look for and what to avoid can make the process of shopping wedding dresses even fun.
Fit
How the dresses fit the body is the most important aspect for a full-figured woman. If the clothes are too large or too small, it makes the body look bigger than it is. Draping is important for full-figured woman, meaning the clothes should lightly skim the body and have some movement.
Length
If the length of the top or pant is too long, it will swallow the woman, making her look sloppy. If the wedding dress is too short, it will appear small and ill-fitting. It is important to buy pieces that fit around the arms, bust, waist, and thigh. If the piece is too long, a good seamstress can tailor the dress to the perfect length. Very few women can buy clothes directly off the rack and have them fit perfectly.
Color
Monochromatic tops and bottoms (the same color) are ideal for plus-size women. Bright colors can overwhelm, not enhance. Accessories, such as large earrings, can elongate the neck. A large bib necklace can add some color and life to a neutral outfit.
Shoes
A high heel is a woman’s best friend. The extra length gives the illusion of increased height. A heel also adds shape to the calves and can create the look of shapely legs. Flat shoes do not have to be avoided, a pointed toe is ideal as it can help create a longer look.
